In condensation polymerization, a reaction occurs between two or more monomers to form a polymer while releasing small molecules such as water, alcohol, or HCl. The reaction is called condensation because the small molecule released is usually a combination of two functional groups from different monomers, which condense together to form the small molecule by-product.
The reaction typically occurs in the presence of a catalyst, which helps to speed up the reaction by facilitating the formation of covalent bonds between the monomers. The process continues until all of the monomers have reacted or until the reaction is stopped by some other means.
The resulting polymer usually has a relatively low molecular weight and maybe a mixture of different molecular weights. To increase the molecular weight of the polymer, it may be necessary to carry out additional polymerization reactions or to subject the polymer to various processing steps, such as annealing or stretching.

Condensation polymerization is a form of step-growth polymerization.
Linear polymers are produced from bifunctional monomers, i.e. compounds with two reactive end-groups.
The Common condensation polymers includes polyamides, polyacetals, and proteins.

Condensation polymers are any kind of polymers formed through a condensation reaction "where molecules join together"losing small molecules as by-products such as water or methanol, as opposed to addition polymers which involve the reaction of unsaturated monomers.
