Later, Dr. Leo Baekeland created Bakelite, the first fully synthetic plastic, widely used in electrical and household items.

Another pioneer, Pollak, produced urea-formaldehyde plastic, a strong and lightweight material used in tableware and adhesives. These discoveries formed the foundation of the modern plastics industry.
