A rigid vessel containing three moles of nitrogen gas at 30°C is heated to 250°C. Assume the average capacities of nitrogen to be Cp = 29.1 J/mole.°C and, Cv = 20.8 J/mole.°C. The heat required, neglecting the heat capacity of the vessel, is
13728 J
19206 J

Q = M * Cv * Change in temperature.
M = 3 moles.
cp = 29.1.
Cv = 20.8.

As, Cp - Cv = R.
Cp = R + Cv.
Then Cp > Cv.
Rigid container means no change in volume so heat is supplied at constant volume.
Change in temperature = 250 - 30 = 220.

So, Q = 3 * 20.8 * 220 = 13,728 J.

Q = M * cp * Change in temperature.
M = 3 moles.
cp = 29.1.

Change in temperature = 250 - 30 = 220.

So, Q = 3 * 29.1 * 220 = 19206.
