Caprolactam production involves four major sections:

1) Benzene hydrogenation,
2) Cyclohexane oxidation,
3) Oximation & Beckmann rearrangement and,
4) Ammonium sulfate purification.

Cyclohexane can be produce by to way.

1. Benzene hydrogination to cyclohaxane to cyclohaxanone to ceprolectem.

2. Benzene to phenol to cyclohexanone to ceprolectem.

In both way main raw material is benzene.

Caprolactam is the key molecule for nylon 6 production. Global production in 2011 was 4442 ktes.

Caprolactam is a derivative of benzene with 83% being produced via cyclohexane, 16% from phenol and the balance from toluene and recycled polymer.
