Since flight conveyors are used for light particles and for long distances, ribbon can be used only for particles of large size because particles such as sand, ash can swift pass the gap, hence screw conveyors are used.

- A flight conveyor is the most suitable for short-distance transportation of non-abrasive loose materials like garbage, grain, food wastes etc.

- Handling of ashes and similar materials can be done best by a slat or drag conveyor.

- Gummy & sticky materials like molasses, sugar etc are best transported/handled by using a ribbon conveyor.

- Dry powdery solid materials (like grain), as well as pasty/sticky materials are usually transported by a screw conveyor, due to its excellent sealing performance.
