The ratio of tower diameter to random packing size is greater than 10.

-> The tower diameter should be maintained at 1.2 m at the top for vapour disengagement.

-> The tower diameter should be maintained at 2 m at the bottom for liquid level and reboiler return.
The preliminary column diameter would then be the larger of the two calculated diameters.
