Chemical Engineering - Mass Transfer - Discussion

1.

On moving the feed line (q-line) from saturated liquid feed (vertical position) to saturated vapor feed (horizontal feed), if the slope of both the operating lines are to be increased, then it will result in

[A]. greater degree of separation with a fixed number of trays
[B]. increased reboiler load
[C]. increased reflux ratio
[D]. None of these.

With saturated vapour feed the amount of vapour moving upward is increased as a result much of it will be condensed and hence reflux ratio increased for a constant distillate.

Option A is also correct. For the increased reflex ratio the degree of separation will also increase for fixed number of plates/ trays.

If reflux ratio is increased then re-boiler load will also increase. Looks like all are correct.
