Pick out the correct statement.
In case of liquid-liquid extraction, no separation is possible, if the selectivity of the solvent used is unity.
With increase in temperature, the selectivity of the solvent used in solvent extraction decreases.
The selectivity of solvent used in solvent extraction is unity at the plait point.

Plait point is a point at which extract phase and raffinate phase meets in the binodal solubility curve in case of liquid liquid extraction and density difference will be zero at plait point.

The selectivity between the 2 solutes A and B is defined as the ratio of the distribution coefficient of A to the distribution coefficient of B.

For all useful extraction operation, the selectivity must exceed unity. If the selectivity is unity, no separation is possible.

Selectivity is also like the relative volatility as it comes near to 1 separation becomes very difficult.

I think when temperature increases the selectivity increases.

Simplifying, we know that separation becomes hard at higher temperature, so we can say selectivity is approaching unity with increase in temperature.
