Heat Transfer area would be maximum for double pipe heat exchanger with fins on the air side with lower pressure drop as compared with the other type of exchangers.

After all research..it is found that.

1. The double pipe has more HTA than PHE.
2. Fins are used for fluids having low HTC.

We use extended surface heat ex-changers (e.g: fins, disks). , when one fluid has very less heat transfer coefficient than other.

Air has very low heat conductivity so fins are used on air side to increase surface area and increase the heat transfer rate.

Than plate type and others double pipe is preferable because it provides more heat transfer area than others.

In this case how double pipe had been decided?

Heat transfer area will be more for fin type heat exchanger.
