Forward feeding highest Pressure in first effect and low pressure in last effect. Based on this Concept hot water have pressure so it may enter in first effect.

For Hot feed, Forward feeding is favourable.
For Cold feed, Backward feeding is favourable.
For Cold feed, Backward feeding is favourable.

Backward feed is advantageous and gives higher capacity than the forward feed when the concentrated liquid is viscous because the viscous fluid is at a higher temperature being in the first effect. However, this arrangement comes with higher material costs compared to the forward feed design.
