Gradually Varied Flow is defined as steady non-uniform flow in a channel in which there are gradual changes in the water depth. For rapidly varied flow (abrupt changes, steps, weirs. Etc) the influence of bed slope and channel friction can be ignored.

Steady and nonuniform

Eg - in diversing & converging sections of the venturimeter in which fluid property does not change with time at any specified location but varies from point to point.

Steady non-uniform: Gradually varied flow is steady non-uniform because the velocity of water remains constant at a specified point, but it changes from one point to another point.
