Due to the sudden change in area of orifice, it has high losses.
And venturi area has gradually changes so less losses occurs.

Due to the sudden change in the area there are more friction losses in orifice meter. As compare to venturi.

Because discharge coefficient for venturimeter is 0.97 and for orifice it is 0.61.
