Velocity stream function is given for a particular stream defined in x,y co-ordinate system and is given by:
g(x,y) = F1(x,y)i+F2(x,y)j.
g(x,y) = F1(x,y)i+F2(x,y)j.

The partial derivative of the stream function concerning any direction gives the velocity component perpendicular to the direction to stop since it remains constant for a streamline.
Stream function is defender only for study and incompressible flow in two-dimensional flow.
