Orthophosphoric acid (H3PO4) is the simplest phosphoric acid. Two or more orthophosphoric acid molecules can be joined together to form larger molecules by elimination of water. Thus pyrophosphoric acid (H4P2O7) and metaphosphoric acid (H3P3O9) are the product of dehydration of two and three molecules of orthophosphoric acid respectively.
