Three plug flow reactors (PFR's) of 4, 5 & 6 m3 volumes are arranged in two branches as shown below in the figure.

If the total feed rate is 300 tons/hr, then for the same conversion in each branch, the feed rate through branch II should be __________ tons/hr.

If the total feed rate is 300 tons/hr, then for the same conversion in each branch, the feed rate through branch II should be __________ tons/hr.

4+5+6 = 300 then 1 reactor volume = 300/15,
= 20m3/hr then for 5 m3 of reactor volume = 20 * 5 = 100m3/hr.
= 20m3/hr then for 5 m3 of reactor volume = 20 * 5 = 100m3/hr.

(V/F)1=(V/F)2,
10/f1=5/f2,but f1+f2=300,
f1=2f2,thus 2f2+f2=3f2,
3f2=300,implies f2=100.
10/f1=5/f2,but f1+f2=300,
f1=2f2,thus 2f2+f2=3f2,
3f2=300,implies f2=100.

F = F1+F2
F1 + F2 = 300 tons/hr ----> eq1.
For the same conversion:
V1/F1=V2/F2 &V1= 4m3+6m3=10m3.
Then 10/F1=5/F2 Then F1 = 2F2 ---> eq2.
Substitute eq2 on eq1 for f2 we have;
F2 + 2F2 =300tons/hr, F2 = 100tons/hr.
F1 + F2 = 300 tons/hr ----> eq1.
For the same conversion:
V1/F1=V2/F2 &V1= 4m3+6m3=10m3.
Then 10/F1=5/F2 Then F1 = 2F2 ---> eq2.
Substitute eq2 on eq1 for f2 we have;
F2 + 2F2 =300tons/hr, F2 = 100tons/hr.

(V/F)1 = (V/F)2.
(10/F1) = (5/F2).
2(F2) =F1.
Now,
Total = F1+F2=300.
Put F1=2(F2).
2(F2)+F2=300.
F2=100.
(10/F1) = (5/F2).
2(F2) =F1.
Now,
Total = F1+F2=300.
Put F1=2(F2).
2(F2)+F2=300.
F2=100.

v1/f1 = v2/f2.
f1/f2 = 10/5 = 2.
Any value from the choice doesn't fulfill this relation other than f2=100.
So f2=100 and f1 = 2*f2 = 2*100 = 200 in branch II.
f1/f2 = 10/5 = 2.
Any value from the choice doesn't fulfill this relation other than f2=100.
So f2=100 and f1 = 2*f2 = 2*100 = 200 in branch II.

(v/f)1=(v/f)2.
f1/f2=10 ÷ 5=2.
the feed must be fed in branch-1.
=(2÷3)* feed.
= 200.
So, the feed fed in branch-2.
= feed-200.
=100.

Given f1 + f2=300, not f1=300.

f2= f1/2,
given f1 = 300,
so f2 will be 150.
How did you get 100 tons/hr.
