The specific Gravity of a substance is the Ratio of the density of a substance to the density of water.
Here substance has a mass in the air is 5 kg and in water, the mass is 4 kg.
This means when metal is submerged in water it displaces 1 kg of water.
At 1 kg per litre, the volume of the object is 1 litre.
So its Density is 5kg / 1lit or 5000 kg/m3.
So now,
Sp Gravity = 5000 kg/m3 / 1000 kg/m3 = 5.
