In Genetic engineering, Chimera is an animal that has two or more different populations of genetically distinct cells that originated in different zygote.
If the different cells emerged from the same zygote then it called mosaicism.

Recombinant DNA is the general name for taking a piece of one DNA, combining it with another strand of DNA.
Recombinant DNA molecules are sometimes called chimeric DNA, because they are usually made of material from two different species, like the mythical chimera.

Chimera is nothing but the combination of two things.
In case of genetic engineering it is nothing but combination of a plasmid with 1 or more foreign genes.
