The sugar in DNA is deoxyribose due to the absence of an OH group. That is where the word "de-oxy" which literally means "without oxygen". But ribose sugar has got more OH group than DNA.

Not really @Cooky, the word deoxy is as a result of the removal of an oxygen atom from the 2nd carbon atom of the ribose sugar. That makes the answer B.

Deoxy (deoxidation) means the removal of oxygen, this is obtained by a reduction reaction. DNA is made up of deoxidized ribose while RNA is made up of ribose.

Both DNA and RNA are made up of pentose sugars. What differentiates the two, is the presence or absence of oxygen at CARBON #2 of the ring.

When oxygen is present, the sugar is said to be RIBOSE.

When oxygen is absent the sugar is said to be DEOXYRIBOSE.

Deoxy means containing less oxygen than the related compound.

Both DNA and RNA contain sugar group.

The difference is DNA (dioxyribosenucleic acid) contains dioxyribose sugar group, while RNA (ribosenucleic acid) contains ribose sugar group.

Yes, there is no oxygen in the 2nd carbon of sugar, thats why called de-oxy which means removal of oxygen.

Deoxy means deficiency.

Firstly, both DNA and RNA Are made up of the ribose sugar. But what differentiate DNA from RNA Is nothing but the presence or absence of OH at carbon #2.

*DNA have a deficiency in OH WHILE the RNA have no deficiency of OH.
