Normally, purines are double-ring aromatic compounds and there are only two of them (adenine & guanine) occurring in nucleic acids.

Both guanine and adenine constitutes the bicyclic purine while'us the monocyclic pyrimidine consists of cytosine, thymine and uracil.

Adenine and Guanine are the only purines found in the DNA. While the pyrimidines, are consists of Uracil, Cytosine and Thymine.
