They look alike structurally but Golgi apparatus is involved in protein and lipid modification (packaging and processing into vesicles) while the sER is involved in lipid production and also detoxification.

Both look structurally the same as they both are composed of flattened cisternae. The difference is that sER is involved in lipid and steroid metabolism while the function of the Golgi is for chemical modification of proteins, sorting and packaging of molecules for secretion or transport to the other organelles.
