Aptitude - Time and Work - Discussion

Discussion Forum : Time and Work - General Questions (Q.No. 17)
17.
A is 30% more efficient than B. How much time will they, working together, take to complete a job which A alone could have done in 23 days?
11 days
13 days

20 3 days
17

None of these
Answer: Option
Explanation:

Ratio of times taken by A and B = 100 : 130 = 10 : 13.

Suppose B takes x days to do the work.

Then, 10 : 13 :: 23 : x     =>     x = ( 23 x 13 )     =>     x = 299 .
10 10

A's 1 day's work = 1 ;
23

B's 1 day's work = 10 .
299

(A + B)'s 1 day's work = ( 1 + 10 ) = 23 = 1 .
23 299 299 13

Therefore, A and B together can complete the work in 13 days.

A s 30% more eff...
i.e
A -> x(1+30/100) = 1/23
=> x(13/10) = 1/23
therefore
B -> x =10/299
add A+B u ll get 1/13
hence ans is 13

As A is 30% efficient then B.
A = 13 work per day.
B = 10 work per day.
Total Work= 13 * 23 = 299.
No of days by (A & B) = 299/23 = 13.

@Chandradeepa.

Because it was given in the question that A is 30% more efficient than B.
So, we must consider A as 130% & B as 100%.

Why can't we take 70% of 23 days? Then we get B's working days right?

But I'm not getting the same result why? Can you explain any one?

B can Complete the work in:

(A's)70 days means (B's)100 days.
(A's)23 days means (B's)100/70*23,
so, x/23+70x/100*23=1.
x=13days ans.

A is 30% more efficient!!
So ratio will be 130:100 :: 23:x.
So x = 230/13
Final answer comes to 10.
Can someone plz confirm this?

30% = 30/100.
100 = B.
Efficiency A. 13
B.10.
Total 13 + 10 = 23.
Total. 13 * 23 = 299.
A + B = 13 * 23/23 = 13days.

A is R% more than B, then B is less than A by.

(((R/(100+R)) * 100)%

Based on this formula,

We cant use A = 100% B = 70%.

A person can do 1/6th of the work in 2 days. If he now works 50% faster, in how many days can he finish the remaining work ?

Swati said:   1 decade ago
Let no of days taken by A = x and by B = y.

Then, (y-x)/y = 30/100.
Gives x:y = 7:10.
Not 10:13.

Please help me in this.
