A man complete a journey in 10 hours. He travels first half of the journey at the rate of 21 km/hr and second half at the rate of 24 km/hr. Find the total journey in km.
220 km
224 km
230 km
234 km
Answer: Option
Explanation:

(1/2)x + (1/2)x = 10
21 24

x + x = 20
21 24

15x = 168 x 20

x = 168 x 20 = 224 km.

Total journey:: 10hr.

1st half journey by 21km/hr = 21 * 5 = 105km.
2nd half journey by 24km/hr = 24 * 5 = 120 km.
So, 105+120 = 225km.

Thanks for your explanation @Sajan.

21+24 = 45..
45/2 = 22.5.
22.5x10 = 225.

This is very simple. Just look at the speeds.take the average of 21 and 24. It comes to 22.5kmph.

Then distance = time x speed.
10 x 22.5 = 225km.

Then see the options. Which is very closer to 225km. 22 km that's it.

For first half (x/21).
Second half (x/24).
Is x the total distance or half of the distance.

Question says to find the total journey but here it got x=225 which is the first half distance.

So total should be x+x. 225+225=450.

21+24 = 45,
45/2 = 22.5,
22.5x10 = 225.

D = St.
5*21+5*24 = 225km.

You can also solve it by applying formula 2xy/x+y.

First half hour the speed is 21 so total distance would be 21 * 5 = 105 km,
And in second-hour distance would be 24 * 5 = 120 km,
So, the Total distance be 105 + 120 = 225 km.

Why this is not correct?

2*21*24/21*24 = 22.4*10 = 224.
