Here is the simple method :
400/8 = 50.
400 - 50 = 350.
350/4 = 87.5.
400/8 = 50.
400 - 50 = 350.
350/4 = 87.5.

7/8 = x/400/4,
7/8 = x/100,
x = 7 x 25/2 = 175/2 = 87.5km/hr.
7/8 = x/100,
x = 7 x 25/2 = 175/2 = 87.5km/hr.

We can do it directly,
400/4=100,
(7/8)*100=87.5.
400/4=100,
(7/8)*100=87.5.

400/4 = 100 km/hr.
8/7 = 100/x.
x = 87.5.
8/7 = 100/x.
x = 87.5.

7/8 = x/100,
7*100/8 = x,
87.5 = x.
7*100/8 = x,
87.5 = x.
