Sakshi invests a part of Rs. 12,000 in 12% stock at Rs. 120 and the remainder in 15% stock at Rs. 125. If his total dividend per annum is Rs. 1360, how much does he invest in 12% stock at Rs. 120?
Rs. 4000
Rs. 4500
Rs. 5500
Rs. 6000
Answer: Option
Explanation:

Let investment in 12% stock be Rs. x.

Then, investment in 15% stock = Rs. (12000 - x).

12 x x + 15 x (12000 - x) = 1360.
120 125

x + 3 (12000 - x) = 1360.
10 25

5x + 72000 - 6x = 1360 x 50

x = 4000.

Let Sakshi invests Rs. x in 12% stock.

And she invests (12000-x) in 15% stock.

Assume that face value of both stocks are Rs. 100 as it is not given.

Hence, dividend per share in 1st case is Rs. 12.

And dividend per share in 2nd case is Rs. 15.

Number of 12% shares she can purchase with Rs. x = x/120.

Total dividend from 12% shares = (x*12)/120.

Number of 15% shares she can purchase with Rs. (12000-x) = (12000-x)/125.

Total dividend from 15% shares = (12000^\x)*15/125.

Total dividend = Rs. 1360.

x*12/120+(12000^\'x)*15/125 = 1360.

Solving you will get.

x = 4000.

@SELVA.
Dividend per annum is nothing but income per year.
Sometimes it may be profit or loss based on market value.
