An investment of 1552 is made on a share when its dividend was x% of face value sold at 97 got an earning of 128.
Formulating this;

(x% of face value ÷ 97 ) * 1552 = 128.
consider face value 100.
[{(x/100)*100 } ÷ 97 ] * 1552 = 128.
[ x ÷ 97 ] * 1552 = 128.
x=8.

investment/MV =no of shares.
1552/97 = 16 (shares).
Hence, the rate of return = dividend * no of shares.

So, dividend =rate of return/no of shares
128/16 = 8 (dividend %).

I think the dividend should be 8.24%.

Think of it like this:

Investment = 1552,
Mv =97,
No of shares = 1552/97,

Dividend is always calculated on face value.
Since face value is not mentioned, we consider it to be 100.
Therefore total fv = (1552/97) * 100.
Now dividend %= (total income/total fv) * 100.
Dividend = (128/((1552/97)*100)) *100 % =8%.

Why FV is considered to be Rs. 1 in this problem?

What is face value?

Income = Dividend * face value/market value.

128 = ? *1552/97.

Dividend = 128*97/1552 (cross multiply).

= 8 %.

For this kind of ques can use the formula.

Earning= (dividend% X investment) /market value.
