The ratio of the number of boys and girls in a college is 7 : 8. If the percentage increase in the number of boys and girls be 20% and 10% respectively, what will be the new ratio?
8 : 9
17 : 18
21 : 22
Cannot be determined
Answer: Option
Explanation:

Originally, let the number of boys and girls in the college be 7x and 8x respectively.

Their increased number is (120% of 7x) and (110% of 8x).

120 x 7x and 110 x 8x
100 100

42x and 44x
5 5

The required ratio = 42x : 44x = 21 : 22.
5 5

Let's suppose.
Total 15* 10 = 150
Boys 70
And girls 80.
20% of boys = 14 + 70 = 84.
10% of girls = 80 + 10 = 88.
84:88 divided by 2.
And the Answer is 21:22.

42/5:88/10.
88/10 is equal to 44/5.
Now,
42/5:44/5.
Denominators are equal. So,
42:44.
By reducing ,we get,
21:22.

Boys 7 = 20%.
Girls 8 = 10%.
120/ 100 = 1.2x7 = 84
110/ 100 = 1.1x8 = 88.

Here (boys& girls) so divided by 2.
84/2 = 42
88/2 = 44.

Again divided by 2.
42/2=21
44/2=22
So, new ratio = 21:22.
