A train 360 m long is running at a speed of 45 km/hr. In what time will it pass a bridge 140 m long?
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Formula for converting from km/hr to m/s: X km/hr = | ![]() |
X x | 5 | ![]() |
m/s. |
18 |
Therefore, Speed = | ![]() |
45 x | 5 | ![]() |
= | 25 | m/sec. |
18 | 2 |
Total distance to be covered = (360 + 140) m = 500 m.
Formula for finding Time = | ![]() |
Distance | ![]() |
Speed |
![]() |
![]() |
500 x 2 | ![]() |
= 40 sec. |
25 |

The Distance travelled by train + bridge length should divide with speed. Simple logic.

Aakriti.
Suppose I take the length as 140 only then what happened? Please explain me.

We should find time only for distance of 140m long, why we add (360 + 140).

45 x 5/18 m/sec = 25/2 m/sec. I CANTT UNDERSTAND THE LOGIC. Plese explain

@All.
First of all, 360*5/18=1800/18=100 and finally 140-100=40 ans.

d = s * t = 45 * (5/18) = 12.5.
Total length = 360 + 140/12.5 = 40.
Total length = 360 + 140/12.5 = 40.

Why the distance is calculated as (360+140) ? why not only 360?

I understand the problem. But why we add 360+140. Explain.
