Explanation:

L.C.M. of 8, 16, 40 and 80 = 80.

7 = 70 ;   13 = 65 ;   31 = 62
8 80 16 80 40 80

Since, 70 > 65 > 63 > 62 , so 7 > 13 > 63 > 31
80 80 80 80 8 16 80 40

So, 7 is the largest.

And is this method applicable to all this type of problems. Like those don't have common divisor.

Since there denominators are divisible by 8, simplify them into.

7/1, 13/2, 31/5, 63/10.

After solving them, it's clear that 7 is the largest.

Easy way is
7/8=0.875
13/16=0.8125
31/40=0.775
63/80=0.7875
by this we can easily say dat 7/8 is the largest fraction of them.

Add 1 in for all the numerators.

Or simply find the diff bw denominator-numerator whose diff is less that is your answer.

I don't understand how we are getting 7/8 = 70/80.

13/16=65/80.
31/40=62/80.

Why we are taking out LCM why not HCF?

HCF will also give a common factor in the denominator.
