2.

Average age of employees working in a department is 30 years. In the next year, ten workers will retire. What will be the average age in the next year?

I.

Retirement age is 60 years.

 II.

There are 50 employees in the department.

I alone sufficient while II alone not sufficient to answer
II alone sufficient while I alone not sufficient to answer
Either I or II alone sufficient to answer
Both I and II are not sufficient to answer
Both I and II are necessary to answer
Answer: Option
Explanation:

 I. Retirement age is 60 years.

II. There are 50 employees in the department.

Average age of 50 employees = 30 years.

Total age of 50 employees = (50 x 30) years = 1500 years.

Number of employees next year = 40.

Total age of 40 employees next year (1500 + 40 - 60 x 10) = 940.

Average age next year = 940 years = 23 1 years.
40 2

Thus, I and II together give the answer. So, correct answer is (E).

I don"t understand tat in the operation 1500 + 40 -60*10 why we use 60*10..because in total sum 1500 those 10 employees have 59 years of age so we have to subtract 59 * 10 instead of 60*10....

Why do we add 40 in this (1500-600+40) while calculating the total age of 40 people.

Here 60*10 means 10 employees are retired...and the retire age is 60.

Thats why 60*10.

Here total age is 1500,when there is 50 employee

So,when 10 employee retired having age 60 there age must be

1500-60*10=900

So, why 40 is add to this no.?

Ashwini said:   1 decade ago
They have added 40 because, next year no. of people are 50-10=40 and each of their age will increase by 1.

So 1500-60*10+40 = 940.

I still didn't understand as we doing division with 40 in the last so why to add 40 before in 1500-60810-40 before.

Why have they deducted 60*10 ? and can someonbe explain stepwise. I take time understanding such things.

I think it will be either (1500+50-60*10) or (1500+40-59*10).
