Six years ago, the ratio of the ages of Kunal and Sagar was 6 : 5. Four years hence, the ratio of their ages will be 11 : 10. What is Sagar's age at present?
Answer: Option
Explanation:
Let the ages of Kunal and Sagar 6 years ago be 6x and 5x years respectively.
| Then, | (6x + 6) + 4 | = | 11 |
| (5x + 6) + 4 | 10 |
10(6x + 10) = 11(5x + 10)
5x = 10
x = 2.
Sagar's present age = (5x + 6) = 16 years.

In case of "ago" we always subtract the number of year.. But in the given answer.. its wrong I think.... as in next question on page 3 in case of "ago"... you also subtract the number of years.

It is clearly said that 6 years ago their age was 6:5, so and hence their present age will be (6x+6)/(5x+6) and hence after 4 years you have to add another 4.

I just can't understand please explain how (6x + 6) + 4 = 11 / (5x + 6) + 4 = 10.

(k-6)=(6/5)(s-6)-first statement
k+4=(11/10)(s+4)- second staement..is this eqn right..? this s how i calculte the problems based on ages i.e by writing an eqn for each statement and solving it..! i m not getting d answer by solving this two eqns..! wats wrong in it..?

I dont think what vinod said is right....
Faruk has clearly explained...6 years
hence i.e.,6 yrs before the ages pf kunal and sagar is 6x and 5x respectively...
So present ages of both are 6x+6 and 5x+6(since present,add 6 years)..you'11 get it..

I've solved by taking present ages as x and y.
(x-6)/(y-6)=6:5
(x-2)/(y-2)=11:10
by solving these i got ans as 10
What is wrong in it?
(x-6)/(y-6)=6:5
(x-2)/(y-2)=11:10
by solving these i got ans as 10
What is wrong in it?

10(6x + 10) = 11(5x + 10)
just explin the next step
5x = 10
just explin the next step
5x = 10

(x-6)/(y-6)=6/5......as 6 years ago ratio is 6/5
(x+4)/(y+4)=11/10...as after 4 years ratio is 11/10
by solving by solving y=4 years...den why it is wrong?

Six years ago the ratio was 6:5.
So, their ages were 6x and 5x six years before.
Now to know their present ages we will add 6 and therefore their present ages are (6x+6) and (5x+6).
A/Q After 4 years, the new ratio will be 11:10.
So, we will add 4 to their present ages i.e. (6x+6) and (5x+6).
We get (6x+6+4) and (5x+6+4).
So, their ages were 6x and 5x six years before.
Now to know their present ages we will add 6 and therefore their present ages are (6x+6) and (5x+6).
