Present ages of Sameer and Anand are in the ratio of 5 : 4 respectively. Three years hence, the ratio of their ages will become 11 : 9 respectively. What is Anand's present age in years?
24
27
40
Cannot be determined
None of these
Answer: Option
Explanation:

Let the present ages of Sameer and Anand be 5x years and 4x years respectively.

Then, 5x + 3 = 11
4x + 3 9

9(5x + 3) = 11(4x + 3)

45x + 27 = 44x + 33

45x - 44x = 33 - 27

x = 6.

Anand's present age = 4x = 24 years.

Why the number 3 is added to 5x and 4x?

I think 27 is answer. Because, When you take present ratio as 11:9, Sameer age will be 33 and Anand age will be 27 (multiplied by 3). When you go back 3 years.

Their age will be 30 and 24 (divided by 6). So, it will be of ratio 5:4. which is correct ratio as given data. Explain if I am wrong.

@Vijay.

I think there is mistake in your solution.

According to me a = 50 and b = 20.

As the first equation can also be written as a-5 = 3(b-5).

To make it present 5 is subtracted both sides.

Given ratios :

5:4 and 11:9 now.
3x2 (difference of 11:9)/45-44(5*9-4*11).
= 6x4 = 24 .

3(11-9)/5*9-11*4 = 6.

Sameer and Anand present ratio is 5:4.

6*4 = 24.

Dear all nice answer thank you.

x = ((11-9)*3)/(9*5-11*4).
So x = 6.

So Anand present age = 4*x = 24.
