At present, the ratio between the ages of Arun and Deepak is 4 : 3. After 6 years, Arun's age will be 26 years. What is the age of Deepak at present ?

Explanation:

Let the present ages of Arun and Deepak be 4x years and 3x years respectively. Then,

4x + 6 = 26       4x = 20

x = 5.

Deepak's age = 3x = 15 years.

Consider son's age as 'x' and father's as 'y' so,

x + y = 60.

Then six years ago,

y-6 = 5(x-6).
y-6 = 5x-30.
y = 5x-24.

x+5x-24 = 60.
6x = 84.
x = 84/6 = 14.

So after 6 years 14 + 6 = 20 years old.

Solving equations 1 and 2 we get,

This is the simple one.
Present ratio of age is 4 : 3.
Then Aruns future age is 26 after 6 year.
Then 26 - 6 = 20.
Now 20 is from 4 * 5 Aruns present age.
Then Deepak's present age is 3 * 5 = 15.

thus D = 20.

Put this value of D in equation i.
thus , 4A = 60

NEW METHOD:

Arun and Deepak age is in the ratio 4:3.

After 6 years Aruns age is 26. So current age of Arun is 26-6 = 20.

4:3 = 20:Deepak.

4*Deepak = 20*3.

Deepak = 60/4 = 15.

x/y= 4/3 -- (1)
x+6=26
x=20.

From(1)

y=(3/4)*x
Put x=20
y=(3/4)*20
y=15

So deepak age is 15 years.

Deepak's age = we don't know (x).
Therefore equation can be written with respect to current age as;
4x/3x = 20/x,
X = 60/4,
X = 15 years.

Last year pandit was thrice his sister's age. Next year he is only twice her age. After 5 years what is pandit's age.
