In an election between two candidates, one got 55% of the total valid votes, 20% of the votes were invalid. If the total number of votes was 7500, the number of valid votes that the other candidate got, was:
2700
2900
3000
3100
Answer: Option
Explanation:

Number of valid votes = 80% of 7500 = 6000.

Valid votes polled by other candidate = 45% of 6000

= 45 x 6000 = 2700.

Simple Thinking read the question and write your answer:

Always consider 100%.
20% invalid, so i.e 80% valid.
55% votes recd by A = 55/100*80 = 44%.
So B recd votes = 80%-44% = 36%,
B's Votes on 100---------36.
B's Votes on 7500---------36/100*7500 = 2700 Votes.

Total invalid votes = 20%.
Then valid votes = 80% out of which 55% for one candidate and 45% for the other candidate.
Total votes = 7500;
number of valid votes= 7500x(80/100) = 6000.
We know that the other candidate got 45% of the valid votes,
6000 x 45/100 = 2700.

There is another method we can apply :
The total % of invalid vote is 20% i.e. 100-20 = 80
therefore, out of 100%, 80% vote are valid vote.

so, the first candidates got 55% of 80. i.e. 44.
and the second candidates got 80-44 = 36.

therefore, 36/100*7500 = 2700.

Valid votes are 55% and total votes are 7500. &20% are not valid so till 80% its correct but after that how you took 45%????? coz we should deduct 55% from 80% not from 100% because valid votes are 80% not 100% so accordingly, 2nd candidate would get only 25%

Votes got by other candidate is simply , 7500 * 4/5 * 9/20 = 2700 votes ..

Here;
7500 * 4/5 is the count of valid votes and 7500 * 4/5 * 9/20 is the votes got by another candidate.
Since the first candidate got 55% votes, the other got 45% votes which is 9/20.

Let total votes = 100.
Invalid votes = 20% of 100 = 20.
Remaining valid votes = 80.
Valid votes for one 55% of 80 = 44.
Valid votes for other= 80 - 44 = 36.
Now, if 100 is total votes, so valid votes for others = 36.
If 7500 = 36 x 7500/100
= 2700 votes.

I was also confused that it should be 25% for other candidates.
Since 80% votes are valid.
Now these 80% votes are taken as 100% because we are counting only valid votes, out of which first candidate got 55% votes and other got 45%.
so, 45% of 6000 = 2700.

Three candidate participated in a election. Candidate A got 10% votes and candidate B got 65% votes and rest vote get candidate C. Winner candidate won the election by 8000 votes so find the total number of votes.

Please solve the question.

We can also do it as ..
There is only 80% votes are valid so
80% of 7500 = 6000 are total valid votes
and one candidate got 55% of total votes i.e.6000*55/100=3300( votes of one candidate )

So other candidate got votes 6000-3300=2700 votes.

The total number of votes is 7500 is it including that 20% or excluding that, if so then we have 20% invalid than why are we 100-55, shouldn't we be doing 80-55 subtracting the invalid once?

And if that's the thing the options are wrong.
