Aptitude - Percentage - Discussion

Three candidate participated in a election. Candidate A got 10% votes and candidate B got 65% votes and rest vote get candidate C. Winner candidate won the election by 8000 votes so find the total number of votes.

Please solve the question.

Valid vote for A = 55/100.
Number of valid votes = 80 * 7500/100 = 6000,
Valid votes pooled by A = 55 * 6000/100 = 3300,
So, 6000 - 3300 = 2700.

They are asking for valid votes.


Valid votes are 80% which is equal to 6000. In these 6000 votes A got 55% and the remaining valid votes are 25%. So the answer is 25% of 6000.

In general elections lets take 100% of the polling results. Candidate 1 won 55% of the votes, and the remaining votes were only 45% left.

In this poling results, there are 20% invalid, so if we remove the total number of invalid votes, it will be;

20% of 7500 (total votes).

It can be calculated as 20/100 * 7500 = 6000.

So 6000 is the total no of valid votes.

MAIN TARGET is to calculate 2nc candidate's number of votes.

It can be done as 45% of 6000.

45/100 * 6000 = FINAL ANSWER = 2700.

So, candidate 2 received 2700.

How 80% and 45% are arrived?

Out of 100% votes 20% is invalid votes i.e. 100%-20%= 80% valid votes and 100-55%=45% other got these much.

How 6000 came ?
