In 12 hours, the hands coincide or are in opposite direction 22 times.

In 24 hours, the hands coincide or are in opposite direction 44 times a day.

This answer is correct when the hrs hand and min hand are perpendicular in 24 hrs.

According to me, it would be 1 + 23 X 2 = 47 times.

The explanation is like this:
1st Hour: 1 time (starting point to be ignored but the ending point to be considered).
2nd Hour to 24th Hour: 2 times every hour.
So, it would be 47 times.

It will be 44 times because in 12 hours.
11+11= 22.
So, 22*2= 44.

straight (coincide + opposite) = 44 times.
