Aptitude - Banker's Discount - Discussion

Discussion Forum : Banker's Discount - General Questions (Q.No. 4)
4.
The banker's discount on a sum of money for 1 years is Rs. 558 and the true discount on the same sum for 2 years is Rs. 600. The rate percent is:
10%
13%
12%
15%
Answer: Option
Explanation:

B.D. for years = Rs. 558.
B.D. for 2 years
= Rs. 558 x 2 x 2
3
= Rs. 744

T.D. for 2 years = Rs. 600.

Sum = B.D. x T.D. = Rs. 744 x 600 = Rs. 3100.
B.D. - T.D 144

Thus, Rs. 744 is S.I. on Rs. 3100 for 2 years.

Rate = 100 x 744 % = 12%
3100 x 2

I can't understand the solution can anyone help me to understand in simple way?

Why we can't calculate T.D for 3/2 years = Rs 450.
B.D=558, T.D=450.
So, Sum=B.DX T.D/(B.D-T.D),
If we calculate, it comes out R=16% per annum.

Please, tell me where is the mistake?

@Nandini.

Let x = No of males, y = No of female.
x+y = 9000.

As males increased by 5% no of males become 1.05*x, female becomes 1.08*y there for 1.

05x+1.08y = 9600 by solving the above two equations you will get the answer.

Help with this given total population 9000. If male increase by5% and female by 8% the population would be 9600. Find number of male and female?
