1st year = 4000/7.5 = 533.33 litres,
2nd year = 4000/8 = 500 litres,
3rd year = 4000/8.5 = 470.58 litres.
Total Petrol in 3 years = 1503.91 litres
Total amount invested in 3 year = 4000 * 3 = 12000,
Average cost of petrol per litre = 12000/1503.91 = 7.98 Rs.

Average cost = 7.50/3 + 8/3 + 8.50/3.
Average cost = 2.50 + 2.66 + 2.83 = 7.99.
Average cost = 2.50 + 2.66 + 2.83 = 7.99.

The three years he spent the same amount of money on different quantities of petrol.
1st year.
4000/7.50 = 533.3333.
2nd year
4000/8 = 500.
3rd year
4000/8.5 = 470.588.
The total litres of petrol are:533.3333 + 500 + 470.588235 = 1503.93
Spend money over 3 years: 4000 + 4000 + 4000 = 12000.
Average cost of petrol = 12000/1503.93 = 7.97.
