11.
Find the ratio in which rice at Rs. 7.20 a kg be mixed with rice at Rs. 5.70 a kg to produce a mixture worth Rs. 6.30 a kg.
1 : 3
2 : 3
3 : 4
4 : 5
Answer: Option
Explanation:

By the rule of alligation:

Cost of 1 kg of 1st kind Cost of 1 kg of 2nd kind
720 p Mean Price
630 p
570 p
60 90

Required ratio = 60 : 90 = 2 : 3.

Use weighted average= 7.2x+5.7y/x+y=6.3,
On solving we get x/y=2/3.

The ratio is 2 : 3

Representations:
Using x to represent the quantity of rice at Rs 7.20 per kilogram and y to represent the quantity of rice at Rs. 5.70 per kilogram.

It is given that.

7.20x + 5.70y = 6.30(x + y).
7.20x + 5.70y = 6.30x + 6.30y.
7.20x - 6.30x = 6.30y - 5.70y.
0.9x = 0.6y.
9x = 6y.
9x/9y = 6y/9y.
x/y = 2/3.
The ratio of x : y is 2/3 or 2 : 3.

Checking:
Rs. 7.20 × 2 = Rs. 14.40.
Rs. 5.70 × 3 = Rs. 17.10.
Rs. 14.49 + Rs. 17.10 = Rs. 31.50.
Rs. 31.50 ÷ 5 = Rs. 6.30 (Checked).

Rule of Alligation : If two ingredients are mixed, then :

c = Cost price of a unit quantity of cheaper

d= C.P. of a unit quantity of dearer

(Quantity of Cheaper) / (Quantity of dearer) = {(C.P. of Dearer) - (Mean price)} / {(Mean Price) - (C.P. of Cheaper)}

(Cheaper quantity) : (Dearer quantity) = (d - m) : (m - c)

c d
\ /

/\mean price (m)
/ \
(d-m) (m-c)

worth of cost=6.30
so 6.30*100=630

den

720-630=90
630-570=60
so
90:30=2:3

I think the answer is correct.
2 parts of 720 + 3 parts of 570.
=> 2 * 720+3 * 570 = 3150.
Per kg rice(i.e.,mean price)= 3150/5 = 630.
{hear 5 is 2:3}
2:3 is correct instead 3:2.

Rule of alligation we will get 3:2 (Cheaper quantity: Dearer quantity) as answer but in question it asked the ratio of dearer qty to the cheaper one tats why answer will be 2:3 hope I have made my point clear!

No, this answer is wrong because it contains cheaper quantity on the left side and higher quantity on other side but in this solution, it is appearing on opposite side according to the rule of alligation.

Its kind of star problem conducted by some corporate company to check that canditate's are guessing.
