5.
In what ratio must a grocer mix two varieties of pulses costing Rs. 15 and Rs. 20 per kg respectively so as to get a mixture worth Rs. 16.50 kg?
Answer: Option
Explanation:
By the rule of alligation:
Cost of 1 kg pulses of 1st kind Cost of 1 kg pulses of 2nd kind | ||
Rs. 15 | Mean Price Rs. 16.50 | Rs. 20 |
3.50 | 1.50 |
Required rate = 3.50 : 1.50 = 7 : 3.

3.5, 1.5
Now, to make it easier, you can multiply both numbers by 10 to eliminate the decimal points:
3.5 * 10 = 35
1.5 * 10 = 15.
Next, simplify this ratio by dividing both numbers by their greatest common divisor (GCD), which is 5:
35/5 = 7
15/5 = 3
(/5 is the greatest common divisor)
So, the final simplified ratio is 7:3.
So, the final simplified ratio is 7:3.

@Mounika.
It is the mean price of the mixture and not the average price. And they have given the mean cost of the mix.

How does the mean price be 16.50?
As (15+20) /2 will be 17.5 na? Anyone, please explain to me.

As per question; 16.50 and c = 15 d = 20
now the ratio x : y.
3.5 : 1.5.
BY applying both sides * 10.
35 : 15,
So, the answer is 7 : 3.
now the ratio x : y.
3.5 : 1.5.
BY applying both sides * 10.
35 : 15,
So, the answer is 7 : 3.

How is possible in 7:3?
I mean 20-16.50 = 4.50. So how its 3.50? Please explain.

3.50/100 : 1.5/100 = 350/100 : 150/100 = 7:3.

Let the ratio be x:y.
Suppose x kg of pulse1 and y kg of pulse2 is mixed. The total kg of the mixture will be (x+y)kg.
So, equating the costs:
15x+20y=16.5(x+y).
1.5x=3.5y.
So, x/y=3.5/1.5.
->x:y=7:3.

Suppose, x kg from A.
Y kg from B.
15*x/x+y +20*y/x+y = 16.5,
x : y = 7 : 3.
Y kg from B.
15*x/x+y +20*y/x+y = 16.5,
x : y = 7 : 3.
