For me, I consider it to be about connection, since cup.
Has a connection with the lip, a bird ought to have a connection with a nest, (or less "fittingly" grass, or forest). Not beak. The first connection we think of after hearing a bird is not its beak.

Well, the connection between the humas & birds is the mouth. So whether its tea drinking or nest building, the mouth or beak is used.
