The man who was sold to my house was a cheat is correct answer.

When something is main then after that supporting word doesn't accept preposition if someone has written in his book except that he is low class of knowledge.

If we put the answer in the sentence it is not at all matching. How the answer could be right?

"Whom" in this sentence is a relative pronoun that refers to the object who is the man.

If the man was the subject, we would use "who".

This sentence is in past tense and who can be changed to whom (relative pronoun).
