Pick a quarrel is correct usage.

Pick-up is generally used for countable things/objects.

"picked up" sound better. Even though picking is up only. Picked up is used commonly.

Pick and lift are synonyms. We cannot use the words with same meaning consecutively.

Pick in the sense taking up or on. So there is no need to use pick up or pick on.

It is simple. We use picked which is past form and hurried is also a past form.
