As there is A the answer
But when we interpret the main statement it means; She is questioning him why don't you go(try going) today.
So, if we try changing the speech, does that implicate any way to the change of day. Even, if it is an indirect way to mention it, should be " She asked him why aren't you going today".
In this sense, D is going to be the righteous change of speech.

While reporting a sentence 'today ' will changed to 'that day '. So option A is correct.

According to speech conversion, we may think that option A is correct
However according to the present tense form of the given statement option D is correct.
Correct me, If I am wrong.
