Hello Friends,
I would like to share my interview experience at Zycus Infotech Pvt Ltd (Offcampus). The Post is Software Engineer(Java).
The selection process was as follows:
1. GD.
2. Aptitude test.
3. Technical Aptitude test.
4. Technical interview.
5. Panel Interview.
6. Interview with the HOD/Project Manager.
I got an email regarding the interview. All the candidates who had come for the hiring process were contacted through email by HR. There was no cross-checking done from their end at the day of the interview as to ensure only the people who have received the email attended the process. So I guess anybody could have attended the process (This has always ended badly in the past with Zycus with all candidates having to return home, with just the aptitude test or not even that for some candidates. But fortunately for me, nothing of this sort happened. Even though there were large number of people present there, they came according to their slots and the management at this event was better than the ones in the past).
Since the job required immediate joining, all the candidates who had their exams pending (candidates with results pending were allowed) were asked to leave.
GD:
Since there was a large number of people, they went with GD first for mass elimination. Before the GD started the HR gave a brief intro about the company and answered questions from the candidates. They conducted GD at any place they could find. Multiple GDs were conducted at the same time. The room I was sitting in was the biggest one, hence our group had the most number of participants (more than 30), all of us facing ahead (like in the classroom). HR gave us two topics to choose from Job satisfaction vs. salary and the topic Red. The majority went with the first topic. All were given a chance to speak (No one was allowed to speak more than once because of time constraints and more people). HR was looking for how well you put your point across and the quality of the points.
This was the strangest GD I have attended. Out of the total, 15 of us cleared the GD round.
Aptitude test:
Paper consisted of 15 questions. 2 marks for the right answer and -1 for the wrong. Cut-off was 12 marks. The time limit was 30 minutes but since the HR got busy with the other groups we ended up getting 45 minutes. The questions were fairly easy. If you practice a few probs before the interview you would easily be able to clear it. Out of 15, 8 of us cleared the aptitude.
Technical Aptitude:
This test consisted of 10 questions. The same rules as the earlier test. This test was easy but confusing since the answers had little difference between them. One has to be thorough with their syntax and concepts to be confident of their answers. Out of 8, 6 of us cleared the test. From all the crowd of over 100 people who had come, 25-30 managed to get to the first technical round.
I was the third one to be called for the technical interview. There were two different interviewers. I got the lenient one. The person was very sweet, understanding and comforting. Gave me as much time as I needed to think. He asked me the following questions:
¢ Tell me about yourself.
¢ Y did you leave your earlier job?
¢ Y change stream from PHP to Java.
¢ There are three entities Users (details about a person), Company (records of companies users have worked for) and Places (records of places where users have resided). How would you design the tables for the same.
¢ Give a data structure to store all the details regarding a parking lot. (couldn't give a satisfying answer to this question).
¢ There is a 100-storey building and given two eggs how you find the minimum height at which an egg can crack. He asked to give the optimal method.
¢ Then he asked me a puzzle. But in my case the there were only three pirates.
¢ What according to you should be the next thing which needs to be implemented in the tech world.
¢ Why should Zycus hire you?
¢ Then he asked if I had any questions for him.
After this round, they asked us to leave for the day since the guy who was supposed to take the next round had some urgent task to look after and if you are selected for the next round HR will get in contact with you. I did not receive any call from HR that day, hence I thought I was rejected. But the next day around 12.30 I got a call asking me to come in by 2.00. I reached there around 2.30. There I got to know that from the 25 -30 people 9 of us were selected for the next interview round. The interview process started at 4.30.
Panel Interview:
It was supposed to be 2 on 1 interview, one being the HR and the second some technical guy, but since again the guy got busy with some urgent work, 3 other tech guys were asked to fill in and it ended up being 4 on 1 panel interview. These guys were somewhat rude to us and looked down on us, not at all like the earlier interviewer. I didn't clear this round. I was asked the following questions:
¢ Tell me about yourself.
¢ Why should we hire you?
¢ Is 8 % of 20 and 20 % of 8 the same. What if I tell you there are two exceptions to your answer?
¢ If any couple was not allowed to have any child after they have a girl, then how would this affect the Indian population?
No questions related to Java were asked till the second last round. All the questions were either HR or logical. So my advice would be try and solve as many puzzles as possible before you go in for an interview in Zycus. This company always gives importance to logical questions and puzzles than technical related questions.
For the puzzles, the worst thing you can do is be stunned by it. Whenever you are given a puzzle to solve say something. Come to some conclusion. Doesn't matter if it is incorrect. They just want to know how you think and how you reached to the conclusion.
I hope this helps.
Best Wishes.
