Interviewer: Hello, Introduce yourself.
Introduction: Name, degree, department, grades (We were advised to bring to focus what was there in the resume using appropriate adjectives as \'consistent\' or the likes), hobbies, a bit of family background and what you feel you should educate the interviewer about you.
Interviewer: Tell me about your area of interest? Why did these subjects interest you?
Me (Grammatically, I) : Answered.
Interviewer: What is meant by BIOS?
Me: Basic I/O System, it is the first program to run and it recognizes all the input devices connected to the computer.
Interviewer: Okay, what does \'b\' in mbps stand for?
Me: Umm, bits.
Interviewer: Are you sure?
Me: No, bytes.
Interviewer: Well, it is actually bits.
Me: Well Sir \'Kilo bytes\' sounded correct so I told bytes.
Interviewer: Kilo bytes is correct but when it is mbps it is bits.
(Later when checked, if it is mbps, it is bits and when mBps it is bytes).
Me: Okay Sir.
Interviewer: Tell about OSI layers? How many layers are there?
Me: Seven.
Interviewer: Okay, What network connection is used in your college?
Me: Sir, LAN.
Interviewer: More specific, intranet or internet?
Me: Intranet.
Interviewer: What is the difference?
Me: Sir, Intranet is within the circle whereas internet is between organizations.
Interviewer: Like that, even internet as a whole is within an organization.
Me: Well, in that case, if it is Internet with the \'I\' capitalized then it is like Intranet.
Interviewer: What is used in ATM? Intranet or Internet?
Me: Intranet.
Interviewer: Correct only but nowadays it is Internet.
Me: Oh, yes sir, now that one can withdraw money from any ATM.
Interviewer: Okay. Do you know about databases?
Me: Basics Sir.
Interviewer: Tell me about Joins.
Me: Sir, I have learnt but I don\'t remember.
Interviewer: If a student from civil engineering tells this I can understand, but you? (My major was Computer Science).
Me: Sir, it would only be a matter of few seconds if I have to refer and answer.
Interviewer: Okay, what do you know about Locks?
Me: Sir, they are used for concurrency control.
Interviewer: Good, you have used the appropriate term.
There was a discussion about what would happen in reservation systems in IRCTC and college counseling system- What if a reservation is made by two people at the exact same time till the micro second? Tried answering but all my guesses came down to FIFO logic.
He let the topic be.
Interviewer: What is the difference between truncate and delete?
Me: (I didn\'t know so I told him the difference between truncate and drop instead. Don\'t do that, be honest. The interviewers are experienced and they know better).
Interviewer: Suppose I truncate a table at 4 pm and query it at 4:01 pm, what will happen?
Me: Sir, there will be an error.
Interviewer: No, there will not be an error. Think and tell.
(I don\'t know from where, but a blinding revelation struck me about certain commands being auto commit and certain not) I told him that truncate was not auto commit and so if the table wasn\'t committed it can be queried.
Interviewer: What will be the result?
Me: According to the query.
Interviewer: Well I am satisfied with your answer.
(Later when referred, I learnt that Truncate was auto commit. The feeling of uncertainty hit high. Was he being sarcastic when he told that he was satisfied with my answer? The correct answer is that \'No rows are selected\' would be the message in response. ).
In the process, he told that they were advised not to hold interviews for more than 15 minutes and that he didn\'t believe in it and he wanted to give time to the candidates.
In a break, he told me as a matter of fact that whenever someone questioned I should immediately think of the underlying reason behind the question before answering. Later I realized, it was probably because I had mentioned my weakness as \'Impromptu confrontation\', which is more like cannot think \'in the moment\'. And it must have been pretty apparent that I wasn\'t doing much backstage thinking during the interview.
Questions about willingness to sign a bond and being chartered across the country and that was it.
Interviewer: Are you having any arrears, backlogs?
Me: No, Sir.
Interviewer: Are you planning to have any?
Me: No, Sir. (Was he trying to bring in a little humour?).
That was it. I got through the process, Wipro However, all of the selection process is in God\'s hands and not a mere mechanized routine. So do your best honestly and leave the rest in hope and trust. All of it is part of a bigger plan to your best interests. All the best.
