Tech Mahindra Interview Experience - Kolkata, October 15, 2014

Posted By : Kaustav Chatterjee Rating : +37, -13
I am a CSE student. Tech Mahindra visited our collage on 15th October for an on campus recruitment drive. On 15th October we had to report in 8:30 in the morning in our collage where they gave us a Hall Ticket number which is unique to everyone. This hall ticket number you have to use as a username in their online exam page. We had to paste a photo also in the Hall ticket so do carry one.

First let me tell you there are mainly 3 rounds ".

1. Aptitude and English online test.

2. Technical interview.

3. HR interview.

And after online test the cleared candidates will be said to write an ESSAY but do not worry as this is not a strictly elimination round but you have to write a decent essay of at least one page otherwise this essay can also eliminate you in the HR round and write carefully as they can ask questions about your views written in the essay in HR round. And for they look the grammar and vocabulary here so please keep your grammar straight and no spelling mistake.

Around 10:00 they started their PPT (Pre Placement Talk) and the said about exam patter and other things about Tech Mahindra and around 11:00 they started their online exam.

After logging in with your hall ticket number and a predefined password we had to change our password and fill out some details and the test began. There where all total 170 questions and Divided in 2 main sections " 1. English 2. Aptitude & Reasoning. Each of this sections were divided into subsections, for English there were 8 subsections & for aptitude there where 3 subsections. Subsections are given below :

1. Tense (20).
2. Preposition (20).
3. Article (10).
4. Confusable words (10).
5. Building verbiage (Synonyms) (10).
6. Passage Reading (10).
7. Sentence Construction (10).
8. One word Substitution (10).

1. Quantitative (15).
2. Non-verbal Reasoning (35).
3. Verbal Reasoning (20).

For Passage Reading many of us got a passage with blanks and we had to fill it with appropriate word given as choice. And some of us got a passage to read and answer questions from it. If you are lucky you will get blanks.

Now for me English was quite tough but practice it from IndiaBix and other websites like campusgate and also ask your teacher to help and English will be fine for you.

For Quantitative don't worry much cause quant is easy, just remember basic formula of chapters like clocks, partnership, ages, simple and compound interest, allegation & ratio. In this section most of the questions come from non-verbal reasoning. 35 question from non-verbal and for nonverbal and verbal practice blood relation, word jumbling, coding decoding, letter series, number series, figure series, analogy, odd man out, data sufficiency, syllogism. R. S. Aggarwal is enough for this part. AND MAKE SURE YOU MARK ALL 170 QUESTIONS BECAUSE THERE IS NO NEGATIVE MARKING SO DON'T LEAVE A SINGLE QUESTION UNANSWERED. And there will be SECTIONAL CUT-OFF for two main sections (English & aptitude) but there will not be any SUBSECTIONAL CUT-OFF but if number of students appearing for aptitude is huge then they might change the rule but they will clear it in PPT.

So 164 appeared for this test and 70 cleared the aptitude test and I was one of them. Right after they announced the successful candidates they gave us application form and some topics for essay. They gave us 5 topics but I forgot one and rest of 4 topics were :

1. Women empowerment.
2. Social Media.
3. Indian politics.
4. Indian sports.

I read in most interview experience that there will be only 10 minutes but in our collage they told us they will start taking interview after 20-25 minutes and by this time we had to complete our essay and also fill up the application form with important document along with it. So there is no fixed time, if you can fill up your application for fast enough then you can give more time to essay.

I got called up for interview right after I finished filling up my application form. But there 3 student before me and by that time my turn came they went for lung and interview session resumed after 1:30 hr and I gave my interview at 5:30 pm. In the interview room :

Me : Good Evening sir.

(Told me to sit).

Sir : What is your favorite subject?

Me : JAVA.  (remember my interviewer accepted it but most interviewer don\'t consider JAVA or C as a subject so they may ask you to tell about a subject not a language, so prepare something like DBMS or OS).

Sir : What is JVM and how it works?
Me : told.

Sir : What is Difference between compiler and interpreter?
Me : told.

Sir : What is linker and how it works?
Me : told.

Sir : What is singleton class and asked me to write one.
Me : did.

Sir : Asked me to write a code for HCF of 3 numbers in java.
Me : wrote.

Sir asked me whether I am comfortable with microprocessors, I said read it a long time ago so I forgot so sir said "don't worry and asked me about DBMS. I said yes sir I know that.

Sir : What is indexing?
Me : told.

Sir : What is Primary key and what is foreign key? Explain with example.
Me : explained.

Sir : Gave me to tables and asked me to write a sql queary.
Me : wrote.

And my technical interview was over.

Now the technical round is also an elimination round, students cleared the technical round was called up for their HR interview. I was called up for HR at almost 9 pm. I greeted sir while entering the room. My HR interview was also like a technical one cause interviewer asked most of technical questions and also some HR questions. Questions from starting was like:

1. Tell me about yourself?

2. What your father do?

3. Why don't you join your father's business?

4. What is firewall?

5. How firewall works?

6. Can firewall can only be software or it can be hardware too?

7. Name me 3 software and 3 hardware firewalls?

8. What is the difference between stack and queue?

9. Drew me picture of a train enters in a station, picks up the passengers and goes the same way back. Asked me whether it is stack or queue?

10. Difference between ipv4 and ipv6?

11. Why Tech Mahindra?

12. Do you have any questions for me?

So you can see my HR round was somewhat tough. I asked him - what do you look in a fresher?  He answered and asked me if I have any other questions. I asked - how long you are working for tech Mahindra?  he answered and I said -no further questions sir. My HR was over and then I had to wait for the results.

Total 70 students cleared the aptitude test and 55 students made it to HR, around 11:15 interview of all students was over and within 15 minutes the announced the results. 44 Students was selected and I was one of them.
