Tech Mahindra Interview Experience - Malla Reddy Campus, Hyderabad
I'm Ajay, a 2013 B.Tech EEE passout, and a regular visitor of Indiabix.
After reading so many interview experiences here, I thought of sharing my experience too..
I applied online for Tech Mahindra off-campus drive and got call letter after a few days. My reporting time was 30Th Jan, 8.A.M.
The process started on time and we all were asked to sit in an auditorium where the HR gave required info about the aptitude exam pattern, how to login and so on.
Round-1. Online aptitude and english test.
Out of 800-1000 aspirants only 230-250 were selected, because we need to complete around 170 questions in 80 minutes. Questions were simple and one who has basic knowledge of aptitude and reasoning should be able to crack this easily.
Round-2. Essay writing.
This is not an elimination round but its purpose is to analyse the aspirant's attitude and writing skills. The topics for essay are very general. My topic was:
'India is a talented country'. Others got topics like global warning, western culture etc.
Write around 15-20 lines with 3 paragraphs. Along with essay we need to submit xerox copies of our educational documents.
After writing essay we were moved to another hall for technical round. My turn came at around 1.30 P.M.
I knocked at the door, took the interviewers permission for coming in.
I: Good afternoon sir!
He: Good afternoon Ajay! Please have your seat.
Then he surprised with his first question..
He: What is the date today? (Many of us don't remember :))
I: 30th January, 2014.
He: Okay, so Ajay, can you say something about yourself.
I: Told about my childhood, my SSC, 12th and B.Tech percentages, strengths, hobbies, etc.
He: Describe your mini and major projects.
I: I briefly and clearly explained the principle, scope, applications with examples.
He: You have 80% in 12th and 68.23% in B.Tech. Why is it?
I: Because initially i found it difficult to adjust, as there's a lot of difference in the way we approach in 12th and B.Tech. It needs a different approach altogether, in engineering the subjects are concept oriented rather than theory oriented. etc etc...
He looked satisfied with my explanation.
He: You have passed out before 7 months, what did you do these many days?
I: I want to pursue a career in IT, so being from non-cse background I had to practice programming. So I used the gap to enhance my programming skills in C.
He: Can you write a C program for me?
I: Yes sir, which one?
He: Any program!
I: Wrote a program that involved functions and arrays.
He:Very goood! Before I wind up, do you have any questions for me?
I: Yes. Since how long are you working in Tech Mahindra sir?
He: 17 years.
I: Thankyou sir. Thank you for your valuable time..(gave a firm handshake and came out).
Prepare your projects well, as 80% of discussion in technical is regarding projects, even if you're non-cs, prepare 2-3 simple C programs.
I was confident that I'd rocked in this round. As expected, I was called in HR's panel within 10 minutes.
HR: Please take a seat.
I: Thankyou sir.
HR: Describe your profile briefly.
I: I gave a brief intro, told all my achievements, extra activities, etc. The HR was going through my resume and essay simultaneously while listening me.
HR: When you are so good in other activities, why you want to join IT and work 9.5 hours a day always under demanding managers, when you can earn more if you follow your hobbies?
I: My hobbies are just to beat stress, I never took it from a professional point of view. My aim is to work in IT, and I've worked hard for it.
HR: There are so many IT companies, why you want to join TechM?
I: Told a few statistics, rank, revenues and customers of the company.
HR: Anyone can find these in company's website. No big deal in that.
I: I also heard it also has a good atmosphere.
HR: Tell me which company doesn't have a good atmosphere? Wipro, Infosys, Accenture, etc all have atmosphere similar to TechM.
I: I just calmed down for a bit. Then said, I want to join TechM because I think I can enhance my technical and professional skills here. Apart from that, I can also develop leadership qualities.
HR: Now you got my point. Good..so do you want to ask me any questions?
I: Same as in, technical I asked him his experience in Tech Mahindra.
HR: 20 years.
I: Smiled, and thanked him. Gave a handshake. He told me to wait outside for results.
Even though I was confident that I'd get shortlisted, I had butterflies in my stomach and was waiting patiently outside.
After waiting outside for 1 hour, one of the placement coordinators came with the list of shortlisted candidates. And by god's grace my name was also called !
Around 80-100 aspirants got shortlisted at the end of the day.
I hope you find my post useful for your job search.
Thanks for reading such a long post
Wishing you all the very best!!
