Hello friends,

I would like to share my experience in one of the campus placements which I have gone through recently.

Hope this would be helpful to some of my friends. Thanks to Indiabix for hosting the collection of such valuable experiences.

Tech Mahindra has visited our campus, RGUKT-NUZVID on January 21, 2014. Around 1300 students applied and 76 were shortlisted after written test. Among 76 students 57 were selected finally and I am one among them.

Recruitment Process:

1. Pre-Placement talk.
2. Written Test.

A. Aptitude+ verbal and nonverbal reasoning (3 Sections).

B. English (8 Sections).

3. Essay Writing.
4. Technical Interview.
5. HR Interview.

Pre-Placement talk:
It's an hour talk about their company and the process of recruitment.

Written Test:
This is the most important level in the recruitment process. If you could clear this you are almost done!

There are multiple sets of question papers. No adjacent students gets the same paper. Firstly we have to change our password and fill your details before the exam starts. Online browser based exam.

Total 170 questions (70 aptitude+100 English) (cutoff will be there for these both sections).

Time: 80 minutes.

No negative marking so it's better to attempt all the questions. I have attempted 170/170 (I have spent 25 minutes on English and the rest on aptitude+verbal+nonverbal).

Essay Writing:
After being selected in written test there will be essay writing. This is not an elimination round. They will check your written skills, vocabulary etc. And ask questions on this during interview.

Given topic is "Are examination important to judge performance'? Write your views about this.

I have Written 3 paragraphs on one side of A4 paper and 1 more on the other side.  (For me nothing asked about this essay in any of the rounds).

Technical Interview:
Note: If you are non CSE student then the questions are going to be from your resume or academic projects or sometimes basic c programs like prime number, palindrome, Armstrong number etc.

Interv: Are you from CSE?
Me: yes sir.

Interv: Tell me about yourself.
Me: Blah Blah Blah just said few lines then he interrupted.

Interv: What is denormalization?
Me: I have given the definition of normalization (removal of redundancy from relations) and said its opposite is denormalization! (Actually denormalization is adding of some redundant data that is useful for optimizing the query response time. ).

Interv: write c code for matrix multiplication.
Me: wrote the code from the beginning (#include<stdio. H>. ).

I started explaining but he interrupted even did not check the logic. What he has observed is whether I am confident enough to write the program or not.

Interv: what will be the output after multiplying 2x3 matrix with 4x2 matrix?
Me: Explained (Not possible as the number of columns in 1st matrix and rows in 2nd matrix are not equal).

And the same condition is embedded in the C code which I have written earlier for matrix multiplication.

Interv: write C code to insert and delete elements in the stack.
Me: Implemented using arrays, functions. And started explaining but again interrupted (Not given a chance to explain the code).

Interv: what if I try to insert elements more than the memory size or deleted from an empty one?
Me: Explained about Stack Overflow and Stack Underflow errors.

Interv: Have you coded these errors?
Me: My answer was no and again embedded the code for overflow and underflow errors in the earlier written piece of code.

Interv: Any questions?
Me: Yes sir, and asked a question which I had pre-planned.

You can plan yours own question.

Later my application and certificates were passed to HR.

HR round:
Me: May I come in sir?

Hr: Yes Please be seated.
Me: Thank you sir.

Hr: How was the technical round?
Me: It was very nice where I could exhibit my programming skills.

Hr: You are from CSE?
Me: Yes sir.

Hr: Is this your first interview?
Me: Yes sir.

Hr: Tell me about yourself?
Me: Blah Blah only few lines again interrupted.

Hr: Are you ready to work in any locality?
Me: Yes sir.

Hr: Are you ready to sign the bond?
Me: Yes sir.

Hr: why Tech Mahindra?

Me: Bang! I have not read the profile of the company or come to know anything about it. Waited for a second or two and answered I come to know from my friends that It was a nice platform where one could exhibit one's talent and could utilize their potential full-fledged.  (good shot!).

But before going to interview you have to go through the profile of the company so that it would become handy.

Hr: Any Questions?
Me: Yes sir. I have asked the same question which I had asked earlier in technical Round.

Hr: He answered and I was asked to leave.
Me: Thank you sir.

After 2-3 hours waiting Results were declared and I was one among those selected students. The whole process went within one day (exam and interview same day).

Note that neither I have told nor they asked about my academic projects, scoring and all. Even no single question is asked from my resume.

But be thorough with your resume especially you should be able to describe projects. You should have preplanned answers for some questions like:

1. Tell me about yourself?
2. Why this company?
3. Strengths and weakness?
4. Non-cs students- why do you choose to work in IT sector rather than core?

Never lose your confidence. Trust yourself. All we could do is perform as best as we can.
