I attended the interview for the position of Graduate Engineer Trainee (Civil) at Reliance Industries Limited. The interview process consisted of a technical round followed by an HR round, and the overall experience was positive and well-structured.
Technical Interview:
The interview started with my self-introduction, followed by questions related to my Diploma and B-Tech internships.
I explained my Diploma internship, where I worked on culvert inspection. The interviewer asked about the inspection season, observations made on site, and how issues like jungle clearance were reported to the Assistant Engineer.
Then I was asked about my B.Tech internship, where I worked on CC road construction. I explained the complete process including:.
Subgrade preparation.
Formwork alignment (string line method).
Concrete laying.
Vibration.
Curing for 28 days.
Questions were asked on GGBS, where I explained that it is an industrial by-product from the iron industry (Ground Granulated Blast Furnace Slag). I was also asked about concrete tests, and I mentioned slump test, compaction factor test, Vee-Bee consistency test, compressive strength test, flexural strength test, and split tensile strength test.
The interviewer asked about compressive strength testing, curing, and why 28 days curing is required. I explained strength gain at 7 days and 28 days and the importance of hydration. I was also asked what action would be taken if a concrete cube fails, and I answered that core testing can be done as per IS 456.
Other technical questions included:.
M20 concrete proportion (1:1. 5:3).
Minimum cement content for M20 concrete.
Batching method (weight batching using Ajax mixer).
Formwork alignment.
Concrete joints.
Density of concrete.
For a few questions like Ajax mixer capacity and largest civil structure, I honestly replied that I was not sure, instead of guessing.
At the end of the technical round, I asked a question about training provided to GETs during the initial year.
HR Interview:
The HR round focused on personal background, flexibility, and attitude.
I was asked about:
Family background.
Willingness to relocate anywhere in India.
Night shift readiness.
Career plans (GATE vs job).
Hobbies.
Role model.
I explained my family situation, responsibilities, and that I completed my education through a merit-based scholarship. I clearly stated that I wanted to join the job immediately due to financial responsibilities.
When asked political or sensitive questions, I maintained a neutral and professional stance and avoided unnecessary discussions.
I was also asked about my knowledge of Reliance Industries, where I mentioned its O2C and petrochemical operations and clarified the role of civil engineers in plant-based construction.
The interview concluded with document verification, collection of my CV, and a positive closing with a handshake.
