L&T announced its LIP program in a ppt which was held in NOV-2017. The selection process was held in March-April
Branch: Mechanical, Electrical and EC.
I am from Mechanical so my description will be regarding it only.
There were 4 stages:
1. Online Shortlist (Elimination Round).
2. Online Aptitude and Technical Test (Elimination Round).
3. Group Discussion (No Elimination).
4. Personal Interview (Elimination Round).
However the final selection was based on the aggregate of all of the above.
1. Online Shortlist.
About 200 people filled the online form from which about 130 were shortlisted.
They required minimum 70% or 7.0 CGPA in B.Tech. as well as X and XII and no gap year in academics.
2. Online Aptitude and Techincal Test.
The online test is conducted on the L&T portal itself and no third party such as Cocubes etc is involved.
The standard of Aptitude was above average. Quantitative and Data Interpretation were tricky but easy. However, the Verbal Ability will be very tough if you do not have a reading habit or haven\'t studied in an English medium school.
Main areas for questions of Quantitavie and DI were:
-Syllogism.
-AP and GP.
-Charts and Tables.
-Geometry.
For Verbal it was Comprehensions, Synonyms and Antonyms
45 made it out of 130 and they were invited to the Hazira Plant of L&T for GD and PI
3. Group Discussion.
This wasn\'t an elimination round, however we were told by our seniors that this would hold the highest weightage.
45 people were divided in 4 groups. Below are the topics of each gd.
i. India\'s Mars Mission: Necessary or Wastage of Money?
ii. Do Gandhian Principles still hold up in today\'s world?
iii. One-Child Policy.
iv. Was Swatchh Bharat a Success?
4. Personal Interview:
First of all, this won\'t be friendly. This was the definition of Stress Interview. They will question everything you say and try to destabilize your confidence. If you don\'t know anything simply say " Sorry, I am not sure." You can\'t fool them, I feel they completely measure me within first 15 mins.
On average the interviews per person took around 25-35 minutes. Mine was the highest of them all i.e., 50 minutes.
Following is a massive list of questions:
-Tell me about yourself.
- Full form of CGPA and CPI (Yeah!).
- What will you do after 3 years? ( For God\'s sake, don\'t say Entrepreneurship or Higher Studies).
- Where do you stand in terms of ranking in your batch based on your CGPA.
- Mine was in low 8\'s so they asked me to justify it.
- What is your favourite Subject? (Mine was Manufacturing Technology and Machine Drawing).
- Question from Casting, Welding, Machining, Engineering Drawing for the next 25 mins.
- Explain your idea for your planned final year project.
- How do you feel did you do in this interview?
- What will you improve?
- Would you like to ask us anything?
Verdict: I was among the 7/45 that were selected.
